ATTENTION ON DECK: There is a petition to get the attention of Attorney General Pam Bondi concerning our problem of being able to use motorized equipment to look for gold while cleaning our streams and rivers of lead, mercury and other man-made items. Here is the link to sign the petition. https://form.jotform.com/251039014591047 We have until June 05, 2025 to get it done!!! Greetings Prospectors, This Saturday, April 19th, we’re going to our Red Mine #9 claim near Lees Creek to do some Maintenance and Mining. We’ll meet at the Mini-Mart, 340 North Main Street in Myrtle Creek, at 9:00 a.m. Club members and guests have found nuggets in this old Hydraulic Mining area. Maintenance: Be sure to bring some rakes and shovels. A chainsaw and weed eater wouldn’t be a bad idea. We’ll mainly be removing brush, trash, and tree limbs. We usually work for a couple of hours, then either Mine or Metal Detect afterward. It’d be a good idea to bring lunch and some snacks. Don’t forget to include enough water for the day! Metal Detecting: In addition to your Metal Detector, you’ll need Headphones, Digging Tools, Finds Pouch, etc. Make sure it’s charged or check your batteries. Bring an extra set. Pin-pointers are optional. Try not to wear boots or shoes with metal eyelets and nothing with STEEL TOES! Prospecting and Mining: If you don't have a detector, you can still bring regular Prospecting and Mining tools. This is the claim where Gary demonstrated his Cascade Mini Highbanker in a Prospecting Channel video. THERE IS NO WATER! If you want to do some sampling, you’ll need something to pan in and enough water to fill it, maybe once or twice. The dirt there is rich in Iron Oxide and will muddy your water quickly! Others fill buckets to take home and process.
